Just wrapped up a music app project as a product manager, leading the engineering team to success

Music is life, they say. In a world where music is an ever-present aspect of our daily lives, creating a music app that stands out from the crowd is no easy feat. As product managers, we were tasked with leading the engineering team to deliver a music app in just 7 days.

The design team had already provided us with a detailed design that served as our guide in building the user interface for the web app. We knew that this would be a challenging task but we were up for it. We gathered the team together and we got started on the project right away.

The first two days were spent on brainstorming and ideation. We wanted to come up with an innovative music app that would stand out in the market. Our team of product managers and developers worked together, exchanging ideas and coming up with unique features that we could incorporate into the app after which we had a clear idea of what the app would look like and the functionalities it would have.

We divided the work further, with each team member assigned specific tasks that aligned with their strengths and the overall goal of the project, which was to deliver a music app that was easy to use, aesthetically pleasing, and with a seamless user experience.

The next days were spent coding this product into life, the frontend developers began by creating the UI of the app using HTML, CSS & Javascript, while the backend developers worked on the server-side logic and APIs using PHP. The teams worked collaboratively, ensuring that the front end and back end were seamlessly integrated. We encountered several challenges along the way, such as compatibility issues between the front end and back end, but we worked tirelessly, often late into the night, to ensure that we met our deadline. As we worked, we realized that one of our biggest challenges was going to be time. With just 7 days to deliver a fully-functional app,

Despite these challenges, we remained resilient and focused, knowing that we had a deadline to meet. We also kept our stakeholders updated with regular progress reports to ensure that they were satisfied with the progress we were making. At the end of the day, we were able to push through and complete most of our application's intended features but we couldn't complete the whole project within the said deadline. Notwithstanding, it was a proud moment for our team, and we celebrated with words of encouragement and a few giveaways.

On the final day, we conducted a retrospective to review our performance and identify areas for improvement. We discussed the challenges we faced, the lessons we learned, and the successes we achieved. There were a few lessons we learned from this project. Firstly, we learned the importance of effective communication and collaboration. By dividing the tasks and working in parallel, we were able to move quickly and efficiently. Secondly, we learned the value of persistence and determination, we also learned to embrace challenges as opportunities to grow and improve. Most importantly. When faced with technical difficulties, we didn't give up – we worked together to find solutions and overcome the challenges.

In the end, we were proud of what we had accomplished and excited to share our music app with the world. While we know there is still much work to be done, we are confident that this is just the beginning of an exciting journey
